Over 275 Leadership Asheville graduates and community leaders gathered on October 7th for Leadership Asheville’s 2015 Annual Luncheon. The event was a great success where we celebrated the new LA 34 class members, honored our 2015 Community Trustee Award winner Dr. Don Locke (LA 15), and listened to an inspiring story of leadership in action from our keynote speaker, Christine Perich.
Honored at the event was Dr. Don Locke (LA 15), the recipient of this year’s Community Trustee Award. Locke is noted for his community leadership and deep involvement in multicultural issues. He has led an impactful career, and was formerly the Director of Diversity and Multiculturalism at UNC Asheville and is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at North Carolina State University.
This year, the Luncheon featured Christine Perich as the keynote speaker. Perich is the new CEO of New Belgium Brewing Company, a company with which she has worked for fifteen years. Perich spoke to the tight-knit culture of the company, her hands-on approach to leadership, and the future of the relationship between Asheville and New Belgium Brewing, after their East Coast brewery opens in the River Arts District in early 2016. Perich was introduced by Dr. Mary K. Grant, UNC Asheville’s newly installed chancellor.
